What is a Booster Pump Set?
A booster pump set is a packaged, factory-assembled system consisting of two or more centrifugal pumps mounted on a common skid frame, complete with an inlet manifold, outlet manifold, pressure vessel (expansion tank), control panel, pressure gauges, isolation valves, and all necessary interconnecting pipework and fittings.
The system is designed to automatically boost incoming water supply pressure to meet the required distribution pressure throughout a building or facility.
How Does a Booster Pump Set Work?
Modern booster pump sets use Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to control pump speed in response to system demand:
- Pressure Sensor Monitoring — Pressure transducers on the outlet manifold continuously monitor system pressure
- VFD Speed Control — As demand increases, the VFD increases motor speed to maintain the setpoint pressure
- Lead/Lag Operation — In multi-pump sets, the lead pump runs first. If demand exceeds capacity, the lag pump(s) start automatically
- Sleep Mode — During periods of very low demand (late night), the system enters sleep mode, stopping pumps and saving energy
- Pressure Vessel — An expansion/pressure vessel maintains pressure during momentary demand changes, preventing pump short-cycling

Duplex Booster Pump Set (2 Pumps)
Two pumps operating on a duty/standby basis. Most common configuration for medium-sized buildings and residential compounds. Provides full redundancy — if one pump fails, the standby pump takes over automatically.
Triplex Booster Pump Set (3 Pumps)
Three pumps allowing two duty and one standby, or all three in VFD parallel operation. Used for larger buildings, hotels, and high-demand facilities where flexibility and redundancy are both required.
Quadruplex or Greater
