What is a Float Valve?
A float valve is a mechanically operated valve that automatically controls the flow of water into a tank based on the water level. It consists of a valve body connected to the water supply, a lever arm, and a buoyant float (usually a hollow sphere) that rests on the water surface.
How It Works
As water is drawn from the tank, the water level drops, causing the float and lever arm to lower. This opens the valve and allows mains water to flow into the tank. As the tank fills, the rising water lifts the float and lever, which gradually closes the valve. Once the desired maximum level is reached, the valve shuts off completely.
Types of Float Valves
Equilibrium Float Valve
The preferred choice for commercial and high-pressure applications. The internal mechanism balances the inlet water pressure, so a relatively small float can close the valve securely even against high Kahramaa mains pressure without causing water hammer or vibration.
Pilot Operated Delay Action Float Valve
Instead of constantly trickling water to maintain the level, this valve allows the tank level to drop significantly before opening fully, and then closes quickly when full. This prevents frequent pump cycling on booster systems feeding roof tanks.
