Copper Compression Fittings Qatar — How They Work & Where to Use Them

Copper compression fittings are one of the most practical and widely used pipe connection methods in Qatar\’s plumbing, HVAC, and medical gas installations. They create a reliable, leak-tight seal without the need for heat, flux, or specialised tools — making them fast to install and particularly valuable where flame cannot safely be used.

Autonex supplies Yorkshire-brand and other certified copper compression fittings across Qatar for plumbing, HVAC, and gas installations.

What are Compression Fittings?

Compression fittings create a watertight joint by mechanically compressing a soft metal olive (ring) around the pipe using the compression nut and fitting body. As the nut is tightened, the olive deforms slightly around the pipe, creating a seal without any solder, adhesive, or sealant.

How to Make a Compression Joint

  1. Cut the copper pipe cleanly and squarely using a pipe cutter (not a hacksaw)
  2. Remove any burrs from the pipe end
  3. Slide the compression nut and olive onto the pipe in the correct order
  4. Insert the pipe fully into the fitting body
  5. Hand-tighten the compression nut, then tighten a further 1 to 1.5 turns with a spanner
  6. Test the joint under pressure — no further tightening should normally be required

Types of Copper Compression Fittings

  • Straight Couplers — Joining two pipe lengths end to end
  • Elbows (90° and 45°) — Changing direction of the pipe run
  • Tees — Branch connections
  • Reducers — Connecting pipes of different diameters
  • Stop Ends (Caps) — Sealing the end of a pipe
  • Tank Connectors — Connecting pipes to tanks and cylinders
  • Tap Connectors — Connecting flexible hoses to taps and appliances

Advantages of Compression Fittings

  • No heat required — Safe to use near flammable materials and in occupied buildings
  • Demountable — Can be disassembled and reused (with a new olive)
  • Fast installation — No waiting for solder to cool; immediate pressure testing possible
  • Suitable for wet pipes — Can be fitted even when the pipe cannot be fully drained

Applications in Qatar

  • Domestic hot and cold water plumbing in apartments and villas
  • HVAC chilled water and heating connections
  • Medical gas pipelines in Qatar\’s hospitals and clinics
  • Natural gas installations (using approved gas-rated fittings)
  • Industrial water and process piping
