What is a Globe Valve?

A globe valve derives its name from its traditional spherical body shape. Inside, the flow path is forced to change direction (typically an S-shape or Z-shape), passing through a circular opening (the seat) which is opened or closed by a movable plug or disc attached to the valve stem.

This design creates a higher pressure drop than a gate valve, but it allows the plug to be positioned at any point between fully open and fully closed to precisely throttle the flow without excessive wear or vibration.
