How Do High Pressure Pumps Work?

High-pressure pumps are typically positive displacement plunger or piston pumps. They work by drawing a fixed volume of liquid into a cylinder on the suction stroke, and then physically forcing that liquid out on the discharge stroke. Because liquids are essentially incompressible, the pressure generated is limited only by the strength of the pump casing and the power of the drive motor.
